George was born on the 24 March 1846. He is the son of George Baylis and Mary Yarranton. [1] [2]
George was baptized on 17 March 1846 at St Saviour, Southwark, London, England. He was baptized the same day as his sister Mary Ann Eliza Baylis who was 2 years older than him. [2]
1851 - George, age 5 at the time of the Census, was staying with his Uncle, William H Cupit and Aunt Ann Cupit at Camberwell, Surrey, England. [3]
1861 - The Census taker spelled the family surname wrong but George, age 15, was living with his parents George Baylis (age 43) and Mary Yarranton (age 41) in Lambeth, England; along with his siblings, William J. Baylis (age 12), Emily A. Baylis (age 10), Richard A. Baylis (age 7), Ann B Baylis (age 5), Thomas B Baylis (age 1). Young as he is George is already employed, he is a Shop Messenger. [4]
1871 - George's mother Mary (Yarranton) Baylis passed away in Lambeth, London, Surrey, England.
Sometime between he had followed his father and siblings, emigrating to New Zealand, where he met his future spouse.
1877 - George married Clara Emma McMillan Chappell in Wellington, New Zealand. [5]
