Biography

Born Bertha was boirn on 23 December 1874 in Aston Birmingham, the fourth child of John and Eliza Baylis ^[1]. She was baptised on 14 March 1875 in Aston, St Peter and St Paul, Warwickshire ^[2].

Her mother died in 1878 and her father remarried in 1880.
In 1881 she was living with her father and step-mother and her three siblings at 127 Scholefield Street Aston; she is a scholar ^[3].
In 1891 she was a "dressmakers apprentice" living at home with her father and step-mother and her two sisters and a step-brother at 217 Bloomsbury Street Aston ^[4].
In 1901 she was still living with her parents and sister Florence and step-brother John at 30 Reginald Road Aston ^[5].
The 1911 census listed them all living together still at 41 Bowyer Road Saltley, Warwickshire ^[6].

In 1939 ^[7] she is living with the sister of her brother's wife, Jessica Waller, at 66 Chipstone Road Birmingham; she is described as "incapacitated".

Died Bertha died unmarried age 72 in 1946 in Birmingham ^[8].
