Biography

William was born September 5, 1933. William Bazor ... He passed away in August 17, 2001.

William who was called Billy by him Mom was born in Mississippi. The family was not doing well financially so they packed up and headed out West to find the good paying jobs that they had heard about. On the way young Bill and a brother were accidentally left at a gas station while the rest of the family drove off in the home made camper. Some miles down the road the mistake was noticed and they were retrieved just a little scared but otherwise no worse for the experience. Along the way Billy got a job in Central California running a bull dozer turning some swamp land into land that could be farmed. According to Bill, when he went back to where the family had been camping they were gone down the road. Somehow he caught back up with them and the whole family ended up in Rockport California.

I am uncertain if Bill ever worked with his older brothers in the Mill or on the Mill pond but there are photos of him with logging trucks. He later joined the Air Force to avoid being drafted into the Army during the Korean War. His brother Lonnie was already serving in Korea and was badly wounded. Korea didn't sound like a place he wanted to end up. Airman Bill Bazor learned to work on B-52 aircraft and soon became a Crew Chief inspecting aircraft prior to take off. At one point his crew modified every B-52 bomber in the Air Forces fleet.

When now Sgt Bill Bazor saw an add on a bulletin board for a "Secret" mission his buddy and him decided to volunteer. He assumed he would end up in Hawaii or some other nice place. Instead the Air Force sent him to school to learn to be a Diesel Mechanic who serviced the giant Motors that supplied Electricity for remote bases. Bill was very smart and graduated at the top of his class. It was only when he was up in the air on an aircraft that he realized his mistake...the plane was headed North and not South to a nice warm climate. SSgt Bill Bazor ended up as the NCO in charge of taking over a group of power plants in Greenland from the Danish. It was the last time he volunteered for anything.
