Family

Children of Samuel Bellamy Beach,

  1. (unlikely and unsourced) Amanda Beach
  2. (uncertain and unsourced) Electa Beach
  3. (uncertain and unsourced) Walter Beach

Samuel and Martha (Bates) Beach were the parents of nine (9) children, five (5) of whom died young;[12] the names of seven (7) are known,

  1. Catherine Beach, born in 1835; died 25 November 1839, aged 4 years and 6 months, then the "only daughter of Samuel and Martha Beach,"[13][14]
  2. Napoleon Bonaparte Beach, born in 1837 (age at death/gravestone). died 25 November 1839, age 7 months, 2 days., then the "only son of Samuel and Martha Beach."[15][16]

  7. Amanda Beach, born say 1852, died 20 December 1857.[20]

Research Notes

Children of first marriage. Samuel Porter and Ann (Porter) Taylor were married say 20 years, and nothing in the profile reflects historical records that would report any children of this marriage. Additional research would be required to document children of that first marriage.

Prior Version. A prior version of this profile reported,

(a) Citing "page 99 Beach Family Magazine," profile reported Samuel was born 1784.
(b) Citing "Biographical Sketches of the Graduates of Yale College: June 1792-September 1805 [(then #S845)] Page 737-739" for his [second] wife, Martha M. Bates, and children of this marriage Amanda Beach (abt.1810-), Catherine Beach (1835-1839), Oscar Beach (1842-1914), Victor Beach (1847-1880), Walter Beach (abt.1830-), Electa Beach (1816-), Martha Bates Beach (1840-1900), and Laura Catherine Beach (abt.1844-1918).
Note 2024 by X-3336--the Yale biographical sketch reports that Samuel married (1) about 1815, Mrs. Ann (Porter) Taylor, and that after her death "about 1834" he married (2) Martha M. Bates, died in June 1867, the daughter of Samuel Bates of Morris, Otsego County. The sketch reports that with his second wife, Samuel had "five sons and four daughters; three sons and two daughters died in infancy." The sketch does not name any children, nor does it report about children born to his first marriage (1815-before 1834).

Family Notes/Reseach. A prior version of this profile included this note (quoted below). citing (a) Beach Family Magazine, pg 197, Vol II, no.4, 10/1/1927; (b) Baptisms extracted from Historic Record of the Town of Meriden, Connecticut, 1906, Vol 1; (c) C. Bancroft Gillespie, Covering the First Congregational Church, Meridan, New Haven Co. CT, noting, Baptized by Rev. John Willard

SAMUEL had two wives. I am uncertain when the first wife died, and have been unable to determine her name. DAVID BEACH, from whom we are descended, is a son of MARTHA BATES and SAMUEL BEACH. More research is needed because the dates do not make sense.

Hoping to learn if anyone has located sources to support the children born before about 1834 when Samuel married Martha Bates. At present, the profiles of Amanda Beach, Electa Beach and Walter Beach are unsourced.--GeneJ

On Beach-2003, I am working on the Ashbel Beach-Anna Bellamy child list, see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Beach-2003#comment_7950765.

Currently, Samuel Bellamy Beach's date of birth seems off. His parents married in Hamden, New Haven, Connecticut, 13 November 1783, so Samuel was probably born a bit later.

His 1850 census reports his age as 63, suggesting birth about 1787, right? One expects he was 21 at the time Ashbell executed the 1811 deed--that only suggests Samuel was born before 1790.

His Yale biographical (GoogleBooks, p. 737-739, in "Biographical Sketches, 1805) has his birth as "(probably) 1784."

Do we have other records, including later census records, that would help? --GeneJ

Edited to add: His birth research is apparently skewed due to the report of his age on that Yale Obituary report, see GoogleBooks, "died ... July 31, 1866, in his 86h year ..."

Samuel has duplicate and errant FSFT profile ... the errant profile is at https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/L5RF-TTZ ; confused it seems with another Samuel, son of John and Sarah.

Found! Baptismal for Samuel Bellamy Beach. See Samuel Bellamy Beach 1786 baptism in Charles Bancroft Gillespie, An Historic Record and Pictorial Description of the town of Meriden, Connecticut..., George Munson Curtis, ed. (Meriden, Conn. Journal publishing co., 1906), 418-419 at 419 (Beach); digital images, HathiTrust, "[1786] Dec. 31: A Child of Mr. Ashbel Beach named Samuel Bellamy."

Edited to add: I have updated his abbreviated entry in Ashbel's child list. That might give some helpful first steps in updating this profile. See Ashbel Beach (1755-1837).
