Joshua, son of John and Nazareth (Hobart) Beal, was born at Hingham, Norfolk, England about 1633. He immigrated to Hingham, MA in 1638 with his parents and siblings.[1]
He married first Elizabeth about 1660. Her birth and parentage are unknown. Joshua and Elizabeth had five children but only the fifth child, Abigail, survived. Elizabeth died on January 12, 1688/89.[1][2][3]
Joshua married second Mary (Farrow) Stowell, widow of Samuel Stowell and daughter of John and Frances Farrow, on October 10, 1689. Mary was born in England and died at Hingham, MA on October 24, 1708. They had no issue.[1][4]
Selectman 1669, 1671, 1677, 1679, 1686, 1691, 1694, and 1699 ; Representative in 1700. [1]
For many years he had charge of, and received compensation "for maintaining the drum."[1]
He resided on Fort Hill Street in Hingham, on land given him by the town "to set a house upon."[1]
His will, dated January 25, 1715/16, names servant Ruth Gannett; nephew Joshua, son of his brother Caleb; grandchildren Samuel, David, Jonathan, Daniel, Elizabeth, Mercy, and Hannah French; daughter Abigail and her husband Stephen French.[1][5]
