Biography

John was born 4 Apr 1830 on Saint Helena. He was baptised 29 Sep 1830 at St Paul's, son of Island Paymaster Anthony and Katherine Rose Beale.

Biographical timeline

  • 1839: sailed from Launceston, Tasmania, to Melbourne with his parents and siblings on 'Perseverance, (schooner,) 45 Tons, Dryden, master' on 4 November
  • John operated a bullock team transport between Melbourne and Swan Hill in 1849, he followed the gold rush and worked the diggings from about 1851 and finally settled as a farmer at Kinglake about 1875.
  • He married Emma Bennett in 1856
  • He left issue (1)Katherine Rose 1857-1944 and (2) Anthony 1858-1944 (3) John Lindsay 1860-1908 (4) Emily 1861- St.Helena Vic

His mother's sister Margaret (1789-1833) married a John Lindsay (1765-1847) and they lived in England, and he probably was the John Lindsay mentioned in the family story that when the Beales were bankrupted, they were rescued by a John Lindsay who bought property for them out Greensborough way ie St Helena.
