Disambiguation

There is a Lawson b. 1758 who applied for a bounty land warrant and pension, and had a wife Henrietta and 3 children b. 1809-1813. This other Lawson could not be Losson of John, who d. 1793. This other Lawson could be Lawson of James [1736].

1746 Birth and Parentage

Lawson "Losson" Beall, was born, say 1746, although Fielder M. M. Beall says 1758. [1] However, Receipt of property without trustee at father's death in 1767 suggests adulthood by then, therefore his estimated birth year is shown as 1746.

He was the son of John Beall, born about 1700 and Elizabeth Cameron. He was the grandson of Robert the Scotsman, Immigrant.

1763 Marriage

To whom Losson was married and when not known. [2]. If children were born beginning 1764, then the marriage might have taken place in 1763. A wife is not mentioned in the will or in property transfers.

1767 Inheritance

1767 at his father's death "Losson" Beall received Mill Land where Richard Scadges (Scaggs) now lives and 70 acres that he lives on called "Addition". Plus part of "mill land I had of Daniel Louis." (Daniel Lewis)

1777 Military Service

Fielder Beall [1] gives following Military record for Losson:

  • In 1777 Private, 7th Co, 29th (Lower) Battalion, Montgomery County Maryland militia.
  • 1778 took patriots' oath, Montg. Co.
  • Jan 4 1778 Enlisted; discharged Dec 27, 1779. (Md. Arch, XVIII:82; FMMB 175)
  • On 15 July 1780, Private, 4th Co, 29th (Lower) Battalion, Class #4. (Could this be in Scaggsville area of N. Montgomery County?)

However, note that a Lawson who was living in 1820, and thought to be Lawson b. 1758 of James [1736] is proved to have a military record and was the right age for one, while Lawson of John is thought here to be over 10 years older than Lawson of James, and it is not proved that the military service above belongs to him.

It is therefore possible that the military record above belonged to a Lawson other than Lawson of John. Residence.

1790 Census

1790 Census places in Montgomery Co.

1793 Death and Estate

Losson was deceased by 26 Jul 1793 when his inventory was signed by his son-in-law Solomon Myers & brother Shadrack Beall as kindred. [3] [2]

Each received 1/6 of personal estate: £31/12/2d.

Son Richard, executor.

30 Mar 1795 Richard Beall, Elizabeth Beall, Amelia Beall, Lucretia Beall, Solomon and Charlotte Myers and Margaret Beall convey to Peter Kemp of Fred. Co. 4 3/4 acres Snowdens Mill Land. [4] [2]

15 March 1798 Richard Beall, Amelia Beall, Solomon and Charlotte Myers, Charles and Elizabeth Miles, Margaret Beall, John and Lucretia Gartrell convey to Absolom Beddo "Addition to Ausburthen" [5] [2] on the Paint Branch.

1798 Charles Miles & Elizabeth, also Amelia, for £33 convey to Richard Beall of Lawson Snowden's Mill Land. [6]

1813 Elizabeth appeared with second husband, Solomon Meyers, as administrators of the estate. Report 1813 mentions 2 children of Ann Beall & Solomon Meyers. 2 children of Richard mentioned.

Children

Estate records following death mention a son and five daughters only -- Richard, Elizabeth, Amelia, Lucretia, Charlotte, and Margaret. None required trustees to convey land in 1795, thus all were born before 1774. Different estate records place names in different orders, therefore birth order cannot be inferred from them. Guessed birthdates below were calculated backward by Jack Day assuming that Lucretia was youngest and b. 1774. Fieldeer M. M. Beall adds Grace and Teresa, however it is surprising these two sisters do not appear in the estate transactions.

  1. Elizabeth Beall, b. say 1764; In 1795 she became the second of Charles Miles' three wives. Fielder Beall gives her birth as 1784 [1]
  2. Charlott, b. say 1766. Fielder Beall gives her birth as 1780, however, she was already married to Solomon Myers by Feb 1784.
  3. Amelia, b. say 1768. Fielder Beall gives her birth as 1786. Not known to have married.
  4. Richard, b. say 1770. Fielder Beall gives his birth as 1779. According to the 1800 Census, was born between 1774 & 1784.
  5. Margaret, b. say 1772. Fielder Beall says 1788. Not known to have married.
  6. Lucretia, b. say 1774. Fielder Beall says 1781. She m. John Cartrell 8 Mar 1798.
  7. Grace Beall, b. 1782. [1] Not mentioned in will. 1795 Mentioned in a deed in Rockville. [7]
  8. Teresa, b. 1790 [1]
