Biography

Michael Böhm was born circa 1702, and married Sarah Rudolph about 1729. [1]

The children of Michael and Sarah were born before the family immigrated to North Carolina, in November, 1767. In their new home, the family used the surname "Beam." Their son, Johann Dietrich /Böhm/, born in 1732, near Hamburg, Germany, on the Elbe river, became known as John Teeter Beam, and died November 15, 1807 and was buried in the cemetery of the New Prospect Baptist Church, in Lincoln, North Carolina. [2]

Michael Böhm / Beam is found living in Rowan, North Carolina, on the United States Census of 1790. [3]

Michael died before another census was ever taken, and his estate was inventoried November 20 1791. [4]

His occupation was farming, tanning, and merchandising. His farm was on or near the River Elbe. This river forms part of the boundary between East and West Germany and it formerly carried much traffic between Czechoslovakia and the German port of Hamburg. Hamburg handles the traffic coming and going from the North Sea. This was a good place for merchandising and for his tanning and farming business. The North Sea seldom freezes in winter, consequently, ships can sail in and out of Hamburg all winter long. Michael Beam, lived and raised a family in Hamburg. He had a farm near the River Elbe. His name in Germany was Baun which means "Big Tree", therefore a Beam came out of the tree. He is buried near the river Elbe.

MUCH OF THIS RESEARCH IS FROM MERGED RECORDS. TO INSURE ACCURACY YOU WILL NEED TO VERIFY THE DATA BUT YOU WILL KNOW WHERE TO START. I HOPE IT IS OF SOME HELP. DON

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Michael by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Michael:

Baum-551 and Beam-497 appear to represent the same person because: Baum-551 appears to be the same person as Beam-497. I adopted the orphaned profile Baum-551 then found Beam-497. By the way, Michael Beam was my 7th Great Grandfather.

Thanks, Alvin Kinley [Kinley-413]
