Biography

Susan (Bean) Pease is a member of Clan MacBean.

On August 31, 1839, In Jay, Maine, Susan Bean married Asa Pease (1800-1862), the son of Samuel and Susanna (Lambert) Pease, and the widower of Urania Bean.

Susan and Asa had five children, born at Wilton, Maine:

  • Philena Naomi Pease, born March 29, 1839, died December 10, 1862 in Corning Iowa;
  • Orlando Pease, born April 15, 1844, lived in Corning Iowa;
  • George Fair Pease, born and died young;
  • Jessie S. Pease, born September 15, 1861, lived in Creston, Iowa;
  • Oliver Harville Pease, born June 12, 1854, died January 25, 1857 in Wilton, Maine

After Asa's death, Susan lived with her daughter, Jessie in Creston, Iowa.

Death Notice

[1] SUSAN BEAN PEASE died in Creston, Ia., March 14, 1900, was born in Jay, Me., May 26, 1817, the daughter of Captain James and Eunice (Taylor) Bean. She married Asa Pease of Wilton, Me., August 31, 1839. He died in 1876.

Mrs. Pease was the mother of four children, two sons and two daughters, all born in Wilton. Philena N. [Pease] who married Sylvester Bean of Corning, Ia. but died in Wilton; Orlando A. [Pease] who now lives in Corning, Ia.; George Farr [Pease], who died early in life, and Jessie S. [Pease] now residing in Creston, with whom the mother lived and died.

Mrs. Pease was the eighth child in a family of thirteen children, all of whom lived to grow up; all married and have children. She was a lady of unusual health and ability. She was ever ready to do her part in caring for her own family, and in the families around her. In her home there was always enough and to spare.

In 1876, after the death of her husband, she went west with her children Orlando and Jessie, with whom she made her home ever afterwards.

In her old age she often spoke of her old home in Maine, and repeated to her grandchildren and those around her the secenes of her childhood, with the description of their home when her father was in the United States Army in the War of 1812. She leaves two children and two sisters to mourn her loss.
