Shaun Bean was born in Handsworth, Sheffield to Brian and Rita (Tuckwood) Bean. [1]
He attended Brook Comprehensive School and later Rotherham College of Arts and Technology.
He applied for and received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he started in 1981.
Bean has been married and divorced four times, and has one daughter.
After graduating from RADA in 1983 he took on a mixture of stage and screen work including adverts. He adopted the Irish spelling of his first name as a stage name.
He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company between 1986 and 1988.
Bean became an established actor on British television, appearing in several BBC productions including Lady Chatterly.
He starred in ITV television series, Sharpe based on the series of novels by Bernard Cornwell from 1993-1997.
Bean has often portrayed villians, some notable roles include Alec Trevelyan in Goldeneye and Ian Howe in National Treasure.
One of Bean's most recognised roles was as Boromir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy directed by Peter Jackson.
He has also done voice over work, largely in advertising but also in videogames such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
He was praised for his portrayal of Ned Stark in the first series of HBO's Game of Thrones. Most of the promotional materials for this series were focused on him as he was one of the most well-known cast members.
