William Obadiah Bean, Sr. is the son of Robert Bean and Sarah (Wynn) Bean.
William married Susannah M. Ballard, daughter of Howard Ballard and Sarah (Cross) Ballard. They had ten children, all born in Tennessee, before they moved to Johnson County, Texas in 1864.

Marion Bean, born February 2, 1843;
Tennessee Bean, born December 27 1848;
Martha "Mattie" Bean, twin of Tennessee Bean, married George Burrows;
William Obadiah Bean, Jr. born July 3, 1851, in Chattanooga, Tennessee;
Jack A. Bean, born January 31, 1855, died in Breckenridge Texas
