Richard Henderson Bean is the son of Captain Jesse Bean and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Bean. Richard moved from Franklin County, Tennessee to Batesville, Arkansas, in 1818. He moved from there to Crawford County, Arkansas and lived most of his life in Canehill. On November 22, 1857, he moved his church membership from The Presbyterian Church of Cane Hill to LaGrange, Texas, where he moved because of failing health, thinking the climate of Texas would help.
Richard married Elizabeth Denton, daughter of John Denton and Jane (French) Denton. Children of Richard and Elizabeth are:
Elizabeth (Denton) Bean died circa 1840, near Mulberry, Crawford County, Arkansas, leaving Richard with four boys under ten years of age to raise.
In 1842, Richard married Muriel Rebecca Smith. She died in childbirth on October 7, 1843, in Little Mulberry, Arkansas. The baby, born that day, survived:
On April 17, 1845, in Washington County, Arkansas, Richard, now the father of five motherless children, married Mary Jane Parks, daughter of Robert Parks and Elizabeth (Johnson) Parks. Children of Richard and Mary Jane are:
