S.L. Bean, a farmer living one mile form the town of Deport is dead as a result of a blow received on the back of his head Monday afternoon, which is said to have broken his neck.
Immediately after Mr. Bean had been struck with a stick of stovewood on his head, he fell unconscious to the ground and Drs. Grant and Teague of Deport were called, but death resulted before their arrival, says the Paris Advocate.
The death of Mr. Bean created considerable excitement at Deport and in the neighborhood where he resided. He was known as a good citizen and the news of the trouble spread fast.
He is the father of Mrs. Fred Johnston, the wife of Deputy County Clerk Johnston of this city. A man by the name of George Parker, who has been living on Mr. Bean's place was brought to Paris by Jim Murrell and City Marshal McGill of Dport and is in jail.
Mr. Bean and Mr. Parker were at the latter's house when Mr. Bean was struck with the stick that resulted in his death. Parker has been working on the Bean farm during the year.
