Biography

John Bean was born January 13, 1794 at Mt Vernon, Kennebec County, Maine, the son of John Bean and Mary "Polly" (Kimball) Bean. On May 5, 1816, John married Mary "Polly" Quimby, daughter of Samuel Quimby and Lydia (Currier) Quimby. John and Mary became the parents of eight children, all born on the original Bean farm:

  • Samuel Quimby Bean, born February 17, 1817, died February 23, 1883, at Mt Vernon, married Amy Jane Frost and built a farm next to the original Bean homestead
  • Caroline Bean, born June 1, 1819, married 1) Davis M. McGafey and 2) George Moody Kimball
  • John Henry Bean, bor Setpember 11, 1821, died October 1, 1839 at Mt Vernon
  • Lydia Quimby Bean, born December 1, 1823, died January 7, 1921, married Joseph Robinson
  • Mary Kimball Bean, born March 18, 1826, died May 5, 1855, at Mt Vernon, married Samuel Q. Currier
  • Nancy Quimby Bean, born February 7, 1829, married Charles Bamford
  • Laura Hooker Bean, born January 2, 1834, died January 28, 1910, married 1) Wellington Woods and 2) Mark B. Gilman
  • Helen Mariah Bean, born June 4, 1836, died June 10, 1854

Mary (Quimby) Bean died January 22, 1884 at Mt Vernon. John died December 11, 1890 at Mt Vernon. Both are buried in the Bean cemetery, at Mt Vernon, as are all but two of their children.
