Elizabeth was born sometime between 1794 - 1800, as best we can tell, according to census records.
Many researchers list Elizabeth T. Beard as the wife of John Jenkins.
Two of my great-aunts, both have been deceased for many years, told me that ELIZABETH'S maiden name was THARPE. Elizabeth was their great-great grandmother. The information they gave to me was based on their personal knowledge, family Bible records and oral family history as passed down to them. (Debra Jordan Pate)
THIS IS THE SOURCE SOME RESEARCHERS ARE USING FOR THE MAIDEN NAME OF our ELIZABETH:
Name Elizabeth Mary Girardeau
Spouse John Jenkins
Marriage Date 6 Sep 1817
Source South Carolina Marriages From 1600-1820

THIS IS MY QUESTION:
How do we know they are the same?
This one source of a John Jenkins marrying an Elizabeth does not convince me. If this is true, both Elizabeth and John were previously married and one or both had children by their previous marriage because there are 5 or 6 children who would have been born before 1817.
Where's the paper trail of sources for John & Elizabeth Jenkins from GA to SC?
Can someone provide the sources to support that this is the same John and Elizabeth?
NEED TO LOOK OVER NOTES TO SEE IF THIS ADDS UP.

Based on the age of one of the females living in the household with Elizabeth....Elizabeth's mother or her mother-in-law (John's mother) was living in the household with Elizabeth at the time of the 1830 census.

1840 CENSUS STEWART COUNTY, GA:
ELIZABETH JENKINS 40-50, 2 males 20-30, female 15-20, male 10-15, male 5-10
One of the males 20-30 is John F. because he did not marry until 1844. Male 10-15 is Marion. The male 5-10 has to be a grandchild because John died in 1828. Possibly one of the males 20-30 and the female 15 to 20 is the father and mother of that grandchild. This is possibly Benjamin, his wife and child.....no proof....only speculation....I (Debra Jordan Pate) do not know if Benjamin was married at that time. Also, Nancy, Elizabeth, Clark and Henry were married by 1840. This left John, Benjamin and Marion.
