Margaret Smith, 94, died Monday, January 29, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Minta Jones at Orla. She was born in Metcalf County, Kentucky, November 20, 1855 where she grew to womanhood. Margaret was the daughter of William Beard and Mariah Jane Bullington, She was married there and about 50 years ago came to Missouri and located in Laclede County. Mr. Smith bought a mercantile store at Orla from T A Conner, and conducted the business for many years.
Mrs. Smith suffered a broken hip in a fall last November and her advanced age made recovery impossible.
Mr. Smith died 22 years ago at the age of 75 years and since that time Mrs. Smith has spent most of her time in the homes of Mrs. Jones at Orla and another daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Johnson, in Bates county.
Besides these two daughters she leaves another daughter, Mrs. James Lowrance, Amoret; and three sons, Dr J M Smith, Amoret, Herbert Smith, Tooele, Utah, and WW Smith, Springfield.
Funeral services were at the White Oak Pond Church Friday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. W. M. Kerr.
Burial was in the cemetery there under direction of Holman Funeral home.
