"Extracts from letters written by him, from Orion, Michigan, dated, 1840 and 1843, tells of his doings for the past four years; his health was so poor that he had to hire someone to work his farm on shares and he taught school for four months of the year, for fourteen dollars per month. His crops were almost entirely destroyed by insects.
In 1843 he tells about five of their seven children attending school, revival
meetings were held, and some very stout hearted sinners were saved." [1]
