Biography

John was born about 1841. in Ross County, Ohio and a child of Aaron Beathe and Elizabeth Snyder.In 1850, [1]and 1860, he lived with his parents in Ross County, Ohio.[2]On August 6, 1862, John enlisted as a Union Soldier in the Civil War and was a member of Company H, 89th Ohio Infantry and held the rank of a private. He was captured on September 30, 1863 at Chuckamagua, Georgia and was sent to the Danville Prison in Virgina as a POW, where he died on December 10, 1863 of a disease. He is buried in the Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Virginia.[3][4] Originally the surname was spelled Beathe but on his tombstone the spelling is Beath.
