Thorburn - Major Robert W Beaton (Ret'd) CD, 54, of Yellowknife, NWT, formerly of Thorburn, died Tuesday in the Victoria General Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Mrs. James Straight, Pictou, the former Allison (Kirkwood) Beaton, and the late Walter Malcolm Beaton.
He was a professional pilot for more than 30 years. Following his military career he was employed by Quebec Air in Montreal. For the past three years, he had been chief Hercules pilot for Echo Bay Mines, Yellowknife. He was a member of Yellowknife United Church and the RCAF Association.
Surviving besides his mother are his wife, the former Emily Saunders; two daughters Catherine (Mrs. Michael McAuley) Yellowknife; Cynthia, Edmonton; a son, Robert, Calgary; two sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Robert Linton), Plymouth; Marilyn (Mrs. Clifford Pervis), Stellarton; two brothers, David, Winnipeg, and Graham, Ottawa.
The Body will be in R H Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, after 7 pm today. Funeral will be 3 pm Satrday in Union Presbyterian Church, with burial in Thorburn Cemetery.
