RIN 526538ef-ff2d-4775-a7c0-60889e592098 August 28, 1914 Physical Description: The following appeared in the Huntington Herald from Huntington, Indiana, on Friday, August 28, 1914: "James M. Beatty Dies of the White Plague. Long Tuberculosis Illness Fatal to Huntington Man. Widow and 3 Daughters Live. Following long illness of tuberculosis, James M. Beatty, of Huntington died Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Besides being known in Huntington political circles, Mr. Beatty was an enthusiastic member of the Maccabee lodge. Mr. Beatty, a former resident of the East Side, gained much prominence in city politics int eh last few years. Though he never held a public office of importance, he was concerned in many political movements in Huntington. Mr. Beatty served as assessor in Huntington township and was a member of the city election boards at various times. He was thirty eight years old and a veteran of the Spanish American war. Mr. Beatty contracted tuberculosis a short time after the end of the war and was ill a number of years. Besides the widow, three daughters and number of brothers and sisters are living. The daughters are the Misses Caroline, Murtel and Alice R. Beatty. The brothers are Lemanuel Beatty of Osweego, Robert and William Beatty of Warsaw and Ives Beatty of Huntington. The sisters are Mrs. Shores of Huntington, Mrs Ida Hurrless of Marion and Mrs. Maggie Nine of Warsaw. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the residence.
