Biography

This profile is part of the Beaty Name Study.

Lucy was born 10 December 1871 in Paw Creek Township, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, the second daughter and fourth child of James Beaty and Frances Smith.

Lucy appeared in only one census, that of 1880. On 11 June of that year, enumerator D. McCord listed Lucy at eight years old, living with her parents and five other siblings in Paw Creek. Her father was working in flour mill, possibly owned by his father who had an important grist mill in on his property. Next door to the Beaty family were Lucy's grandparents, James Morris Beaty and Lucy Davenport Beaty who she was named for. Lucy had attended school during the census year.[1]

Sadly, Lucy died at the age of 15 on 28 March 1887 in Paw Creek. She was buried in the same plot as her father (who died in 1883) in the Paw Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Her mother would also be buried there in 1915, and all three share a single gravestone.[2]
