A message to all of my family

19 October 2018

If I've had contact with you in the past and shared family photos:
I sincerly apologize for ripping off your photos and posting them everywhere without asking you or citing you as a source. I've lost your contact email or I would have emailed you to apologize personally.
This was wrong and I'm sorry. I've since grown and learned the importance of integrity in research.
If you've found that I've done this to you, please email me to sort it out.

A message to my fellow researchers

19 October 2018

If I've ripped off one of your photos in the past and didn't ask for permission or even cite you as a source, I apologize.
If you've found that I've done this to you, please email me to sort it out.

Research history

19 October 2018

I became interested in family ties and genealogy research in 2006 when I was 14.

My journey started when I found an email from 1998 between my dad and a Beauchamp cousin about the Beauchamp Plantation in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. I spent the next 10 years connecting with as many distant cousins as possible. Being a kid, I didn't have the money to spend on Ancestry so my sources were Cindy's List, Ancestry and Genalogy.com forums. I kept my research in GEDCOM files and edited with GRAMPS.
I made all the beginner mistakes; using public trees, combining public trees, ripping off photos, and the greatest sin of all: not citing a source a day in my life.
Sadly my old habits didn't stop until after I'd been a member of WikiTree for a couple years. WikiTree's collabortion with other researchers taught me that sources are the most important part of research and I'm still working on adding sources to some of my earliest profiles.

Research today

I'm still an active researcher.

I no longer focus on just my family. I like to research entire surnames and states. I manage over 5,000 profiles right now (I should probably weed some of those out).

Family Brick Walls

  • Great-grandmother Myrtle Francis Scott was an orphan and the adoptive daughter of Langdon and Mary Brooks. Who were her birth parents? Where did she come from? Why did Langdon and Mary adopt a pre-teen/teenager? Is it possible she was the daughter of a family member or friend?
  • Great-grandfather Fred Fugate. He seems to have been married three times. Can't find good sources to verify his parents.
Update 2018 October 19: I did find the names of his parents from his Social Security claim: Calvin and Minnie Bartley.

I just realized I posted the following on a page you manage and not your profile. My apologies.

I am attempting to determine how we share 25.5cM, 1,927 SNPs on Chr20 Segment start: 52,739,863 Segment end: 60,439,930

16.7cM of that same segment is shared with Amanda Lowery Scarborough (A686341) ... see: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Woodman-43 for details. He’s the Most Recent Common Ancestor for you and I.

The MRCA with Amanda and I is Ferdinand Pippin. So our DNA connection has me puzzled.

If you have questions about Scruggs, just ask. There is our on line data base; and, I have access to another Scruggs data base.

Amanda are you related to the Kennedys some way? You have done an awful about of work on them.

My maternal great grand mother was Francis Hulda Beauchamp Phillips. b. 1836 in Georgia, d. 1919 in Daingerfield, Tx

It is documented; you can just click around.

I think that John Scruggs is a son of John Scruggs and Frances Walton. That John Scruggs is a son of William Scruggs. John being a son of William is by the property in deeds - see the notes in the data base linked to.

It is, of course, my opinion. Which may, or may not, be correct.

"Waltons of Old Virginia " by Wilmer kerns - I downloaded for free from somewhere; I do not recall where.

Hi Amanda

Re Laura (Black) Morehead (Black-1741)

I did not get a response from Laurie, but some profiles were then made open and orphaned by WikiTree after I made an unresponsive PM report. Not the path I wanted to take, but was left with no other option.

Thanks for merging Hopper and Noble so quickly. Again, my apologies for creating duplicates.

BTW, I love the way you've set up your profile page -- listing your brick walls.

From what I can tell about the beauchamp family they moved from alabama, to arkansas and then to texas. They ended up in Bell county. Some of them stayed in Bell county some of them moved to Dallas area, then a portion of them moved to Jones county. Then I found some that moved to Amarillo, and up into Oklahoma. If you look them up on Familysearch.org, you can see a whole line of Beauchamps.

Hi Amanda, I see you were working on a Dorothy Louise Pinner, she is my grandmother. I am not sure how this works! Any info greatly appreciated.
