Topham Beauclerk was born on 22 December 1739, the only son of Lord Sidney Beauclerk (a 5th son of the 1st Duke of St Albans) and his wife, Mary Norris, and he was a great-grandson of King Charles II. He was christened on 19 January 1740 in St James', Westminster, England. [1][2] Being son of a courtesy title holder he did not qualify for a title, he was styled as, Topham Beauclerk.


He married Diana (Spencer) Beauclerk (1734-1808) in St George's Church, Hanover Square, London.

Life Story

He attended Trinity College, University of Oxford but didn't graduate.

A letter dated, 22 Nov 1766 to Mrs Mary Pickering at Thelwall, from T. Beauclerk book collector, informs her of the death of his mother Mary, daughter of Thomas Norris of Speke Hall, Lancashire, who was a friend of Mary's. [3]


He died in 1780 at his home in Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury, Middlesex, England. [4]
