Joseph Xavier Beauvais dit St-Joseph Beauvais appears to be a variation of Bouvet, which is his father's name. Born and baptized on 14 May 1730 in St-Cyr-et-Ste-Juliette parish, Champagnole, arch. Besançon, Franche-Comté (ar. Lons-le-Saunier, Jura)[1] He gets called François Xavier on various records, in his absence, appears to be a clerical error as the combination François Xavier is much more frequent than Joseph Xavier. In later life and on his and his wife's funerals he is listed as François only.
He arrived in the colony as a soldier in the Languedoc regiment, de Vaudray company, with Montcalm, in 1755.[2]
Marriage
Joseph Xavier Bauvais, son of Jacques Bauvais and Anne Marie Arbelle, of the parish of Champagnol in Franche-Comté, Poligni jurisdiction (diocese), married Josephe Denoyer, daughter of Pierre Denoyer and of Josephe Létourneaux, on 21 Feb 1757 in Chambly (St-Joseph).[3]
9 known children to the couple, of which 3 died young and 6 married.[4]
Death
He died on 26 April 1804 and was buried on the 28th under the name François Beauvais, widower of Josephte Desmarais, in Chambly, the record giving him 72 years of age.[5]
