MILDRED PEEL The sad death took place of a well-known Adelong identity in the person of Mrs Henry William Peel (nee Mildred Beaver) at the home of her daughter, Mrs Oakman, of Simpson-Street, Tumut, on the 15th December, at the age of 89 years. Mrs Peel was born at Upper Adeloneg in the year 1859 and spent her life in the Batlow and Adelong districts. Deceased was of a quiet nature and was possessed of a charming and delightful character, being extremely popular with all sections of the community. She was married 72 years ago at Batlow to Mr Henry William Peel, who predeceased her eleven years ago. Fifteen children were born to the union, nine of whom survive her, viz: Arthur (West Wyalong), Henry (Kunama), Frank (Temora), Charlie (Sydney), Ada (Mrs. Dooner, Sydney)-, Alice (Mrs. Keen, Bobadah), Isabel (Mrs. Hilly, Sydney), Daisy (Mrs. Wood, Tumbarumba), Martha (Mrs. Oakman, Tumut). One son, William, predeceased her six weeks ago. There is also one sister surviving, Mrs A. Peel (Humula). She had 58 grandchildren,92 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs Peel had wonderful health right up until about twelve months ago when she had the misfortune to hurt her leg and was confined to her bed for several weeks. Since then her health gradually declined. The remains were brought to Adelong for interment. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Boston Bros., of Adelong. Prior to the burial service was conducted in St. Paul's Church of England by Rev. Dr C. B. Alexander, who also conducted the last sad rites at the graveside. The pallbearers were Neville Oakman and Robert Burgun (grandsons), Tom Hilly and George Kell (nephews), William Keen and Robert Wood (sons-in-law).
