Biography

For the last 28 years of his life he had been shop foreman for Federal Lumber Company and its predecessor at North Tazewell, Va., on a Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry G. Tomlinson, Jr., of Tazewell, where he had been ill for the past three months.

Funeral services were held the following Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Tazewell Baptist Church, the Rev. W.S. Jones and the Rev. Harold J. Davis officiating. Burial was held in Maplewood Cemetery.


Mr. Beavers was born at North Tazewell, on January 19, 1885, being a son of Dexter Beavers and Eliza Kiser. He was married to Dora Gray Roberts, on January 13, 1909, to which union was born eight children, seven, of whom survive. One son, Roy Kent, lost his life on December 10, 1929 when he accidentally picked up a live wire while working at English, West, Virginia.


Surviving sons and daughter are; Mrs. R.Y. Mundy of North Tazewell; Mrs. Henry G. Tomlinson, Jr. of Tazewell, Va.; Earnest, Curtis, Mary, Cecil, and David Beavers, all of North Tazewell, Va. He is also survived by the following grandsons and granddaughters: J.W., Bobby, and Charlie Mundy and Catherine Gray Tomlinson. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters; E.B. Beavers of Castlewood, Va.; Mrs. Garfield Morley and Mrs. F.E. Fields of Harman, Va.; Mrs. Jamie Chafin, Hansonville, Va.; Mrs. John Bise, Lebanon, Va.; C.C. Beavers, Belfast, Va.; W.G. Beavers, Coeburn, Va.; Mrs. Ollie Litton, Bluefield, W. Va.; and Otis Howard Beavers, Inglewood, California.


Mr. Beavers was a man of high moral character and was well loved by all who knew him. He will be missed in the community in which he lived. He was devoted to his wife during her lifetime, and to his family. He was a direct descendant of the Moore family of Abbs Valley.


He bore his trials most nobly, and did not murmur of pain.
