Biography

Michael was born in 1840 in France ^[1]

Michael's father Daniel purchased land in Willoughby in 1840, the same year Michael was born. https://sites.google.com/site/niagarasettlers2/willoughby-township-abstracts/willoughby . In the next few censuses Michaels birthplace is listed as Germany. Therefore the family must have immigrated to Canada in 1840, just after Michael was born. The family was in fact from Alsace France. The year of birth varies in the censuses,1851 Canada census list his age as 13 which would give his birth year as 1838. ^[2] Michael married Catherine Schabel in 1874, They had six children. ^[3]

Their first daughter Mary Elizabeth had a child, Cora, when she was 17 years old and unmarried. Michael and Catherine raised her. The 1911 census shows her as their grandchild.

He died 1914 ^[4]
