William S. Becker was born in May, 1860 in Plattesville, Grant County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Hiram Becker and Evaline Traber.

Hiram Becker registered for the draft on July 1, 1863 in Platteville, Grant County, Wisconsin. On January 31, 1865, he enlisted in Company K, Wisconsin 47th Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on September 4, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

In June, 1870, William S. Becker was living with his family in Morris Township in Sullivan County, Missouri. His father's real estate was valued at $1,200.00 ($21,597.49); his personal estate was valued at $600.00 ($10,798.75). Enumerated in the household were:

William S. Becker married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Kenley on April 3, 1881 in Sullivan County, Missouri. She was the daughter of James Kenley and Julia Lawrence, both deceased.
