St. Joseph, Iowa - Emma Becker Thul, 90, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, Sep. 26, 2005.
Emma, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Kellner) Becker, was born June 9, 1915, in St. Joseph. She attended local schools and graduated from the Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque in 1932. On Feb 4 1936 she was united in marriage with Eugene Thul at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The couple lived in Algona and Ledyard before their move to St. Joseph where they lived for the majority of their married lives. Emma was a cook at the school in St. Joseph for 25 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, playing cards and was a member of the CD of A for many years.
Survivors include her children Donna (Ray) Forsythe, Spirit Lake, Barbara Forsythe, Mesa, Ariz, Charlene (Lannic) Miller, West Bend, Jean (Dale) Pittsley, Libby, Mont., Richard (Sheryl) Thul, Boone, Virginia (Joe) Kullsik, Westchester, Ill., Emily (Gary) Bendickson, Famhamville, Fran (Mark) Johnston, Muscatine, Millie (Bill) Crawford, Fort Dodge, Irene Cameron, Des Moines, Peggy (Ron) Kovacs, Glen Campbell, Pa., Don (Linda) Thul, West Bend, and Carla (Frank) Montag, West Bend; siblings Clare Becker, OSF, Dubuque, Rita Henley, Sun City, Ariz., George Becker, San Leandro, Calif, Peggy Deardorf, Sun City, Ariz., Germaine Flesher, Homer, La., Irma Kayser, Phoenix, Ariz., Al Becker, Algona, Jerry Becker, Algona, and Don Becker, Homboldt; and 48 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband Eugene in 1999; children Mary Lu and David; son-in-law Richard Cameron; grandchildren Diane Forsythe and Matt Johnston; great-grandson Samuel Schulte; siblings Tony Matthew, Tom, Lawrence, Father Luke, Jake, Raymond, Father Nick, Martha Collins, Mary Ann Gregg, Edith Sorensen and Theresa Becker; parents, George and Elizabeth Kellner Becker; and step-mother Ida Kruecher Becker.
