Sister Clare (Georgine) Becker, 101, of Holy Family Hall, Dubuque, died at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Holy Family Hall Infirmary.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 28, in the Mount St. Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today in the chapel, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
Sister ministered in the Iowa cities of Arcadia, Pocahontas, Bancroft, Waterloo, Alton, Stacyville, La Motte, Templeton, Riverside, Larchwood, Dubuque (St. Mary), Cascade and Spirit Lake; Chicago; and Munday, Texas.
She was born on Dec. 18, 1908, in St. Joseph, Iowa, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Kellner) Becker.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on Nov. 30, 1923, and made her final profession of vows on June 19, 1929.
Surviving are her brothers, George, Albert, Jerome and Donald; her sisters, Rita, Irma and Germaine; nieces; nephews; and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared 85 years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Tony, Mathew, Thomas, Lawrence, the Rev. Luke, James, Raymond and the Rev. Nick; and her sisters, Emma, Martha, Margaret, Mary Ann, Edith and Theresa.
