YORK,PA. Harry Franklin Becker, Jr., 89, died Sunday, December 8, 2013, at York Hospital,York, PA. He was the husband of Mildred Gladys (Hunt) Becker. They were married for 44 years. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a daughter, Patricia D. Ehrhart and her husband Lionel of Shiloh, York County, PA. two granddaughters, Kristina N. LaVigne and husband Lawrence, and Angelea A. Risley and husband Daniel; and four great-grandchildren, Colby J. LaVigne, Sierra N. LaVigne, Sophie M. Risley and Eli D. Risley. Born on March 3, 1924, in York, PA. he was the son of the late Harry Franklin Becker, Sr. and the late Lena (Hoecke) Becker. Mr. Becker attended the schools of the city of York, PA and received his GED diploma through the University of Wisconsin. He attended Penn State University, York campus, and had various other courses at several universities. Mr. Becker was employed at S. Morgan Smith, later Allis Chalmers Corp. and was a Senior Buyer. He worked there for 30 years. He was the Police Chief of Jacobus Borough and Springfield Twp, York County, PA for 16 years and was a policeman in York Twp. York County, PA for several years. He was a former Notary Public. He was employed by the County of York, PA He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was in the battles in Africa, France, Sicily, Germany, Italy and Corsica and received numerous medals as listed: Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, E.T.O. Medal, (7) Bronze Stars, Army of Occupational (Germany Clasp), two Army Commendations, National Defense Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Becker was in the 410th Anti-Aircraft Artillery and the 364th M.P. Battalion. He was a M/Sgt. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves for many years. Mr. Becker was a 32nd degree Master Mason and was a member of the Zeredatha Lodge #451, Free and Accepted Masons of York and a member of Harrisburg Consistory and a former noble of Zembo Shrine of Harrisburg,. PA Mr. Becker was also a member of the AARP and a former member of York West Chapter #1578 of York, PA and a member of the bowling team. He was also a former member of the Ruptured Duck of Dubois, Iowa. He was a life member of the VFW Post 556 of York, PA and a life member of the Disabled Veterans of America. Mr. Becker was a member of the former award winning American Legion Drum and Bugle Corp of York, PA for many years. He was also a member of American Legion, Shiloh Post 791, a charter member of the World War II Memorial, and an associate member of the White Rose, FOP Lodge #15 of York, PA. A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 2114 W. Market St., York, PA. followed by a Masonic Service at 11 a.m. and afterwards a service at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce E. Fensterbush officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmount Cemetery, York, PA. with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
