OBITUARY: Funeral services for Kathy Phillips, 63, of Lexington, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019 at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington with Rev. Robert Tiner and Rev. Chris Nietubicz officiating. Burial will follow in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, August 26, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Kathy Lou (Becker) Phillips was born on September 24, 1955 in Electra, Texas to Edmund Walter & Helen Veronica (Bodling) Becker. She was baptized on October 9, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harrold, Texas. She was confirmed on March 22, 1970 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Emil Krugler. Her confirmation verse was Matthew 28:20, “and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Kathy was united in marriage to Homer Phillips on December 5, 1980 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Robert Koenig. This union was blessed with three children, Cory, Mindy and Marsha. Kathy served in the health care profession as a nurse for over 30 years. As a nurse, she touched many lives and in turn had her life touched as well. Those that knew Kathy knew that she was so much more than just a nurse to her patients. Kathy also volunteered at different periods in her life, with organizations such as the Braille Society, Pack Pals and with the Milam County Christmas Roundup. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking with her granddaughters, traveling with her husband and cooking Sunday lunches for her family. Her granddaughters especially enjoyed the slumber parties that she hosted with them on her days off.
Kathy went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of Thursday, August 22, 2019 at CHI St. Joseph Health Hospital in Bryan. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edmund Becker and Herman Dorsey & Helen Becker York and one sister Rita Diamond.
She is survived by her husband, Homer Phillips of Lexington; three children, Cory Phillips and his wife, Joelle of Milano, Mindy Miller and her husband, Jess of Milano and Marsha Pohorelsky and her husband, Jimmie of Giddings; seven grandchildren, Brittany Barksdale of Fort Worth, Clay Barksdale of Hawaii, Justin Barksdale of San Marcos, Mallory Miller of Milano, Jesalyn Miller of Milano, Miladie Pohorelsky of Giddings and Hadlie Pohorelsky of Giddings; brother, Edmund Becker Jr. and his wife, Jodie of Giddings; two sisters, Shirley Meadows and her husband, Johnny of Georgia and Bonnie Campbell and her husband, Robert of El Campo , as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Beisert, Johnny Beisert, Gary Brown, Cory Phillips, Jacob Phillips and Dustin Spellman. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Milburn, Jess Miller and Jimmie Pohorelsky.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital Research, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or to a charity of one’s choice.
