Clifford Cecil Haigler 1930 – 2018
Cliff passed away peacefully on November 3. He was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and eventually moved to Fruitland, Idaho, where he excelled in track and field. She graduated from high school in Springfield, Oregon In 1949, he enlisted in the Air Force and in 1951 met his wife Judee, in Furstenfeldbruck, Germany. Their son, Gene, was born there in 1953. Later in 1953, he and his family moved back to Eugene where their daughter, Diana, was born in 1954. He had a variety of occupations. He was a fireman, he worked for Sunbeam bread Company and American Greetings cards. During this time he dabbled in real estate and became a successful realtor, rental property owner and co-owner of Royal Real Estate. He and his wife, Judee, raised nationally recognized, show German Shepherds. Cliff and Judee were snowbirds, spending winters in Sun City, Arizona, where he became proficient in bocce and pottery. He lived fishing, bowling, crabbing, irises, sunsets, the coast, cashews, Texas Hold em, friends, traveling the world over, reading the newspaper and watching the Oregon Ducks. He had a voracious appetite for desserts, from lemon meringue pie to frog eve pudding (tapioca). When traveling in Germany, he was knows to seek out Konditories (pastry shops). At Christmas time he would make a mean batch of spiked eggnog of which he was so proud. He was a gracious, well dressed, quiet and thoughtful man with a dry, wonderful sense of humor. He worked hard all of his life and was a caring father. He was an advocate for the underdog, always ready to help those who were less fortunate. He loved card games but most of all poker. He celebrated his 88th birthday in October. When asked how old he was, he responded saying he was a pair of 8's. Near the end, when he accepted hospice, he said that he was 'all in'. He and his wife belonged to the Springfield Elks where he was a lifetime member. Many Wednesday and Friday nights were spend playing cards and enjoying their friends. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Judee, daughter, Diana Gardner (Don), grandson Griffin Crafts, and a plethora of family in Canada. He was preceded in death by his son, Gene Haigler. We will miss that twinkle in your eye. Your famous cocktails, Your laughter. Your kindness towards others. Thank all of you at Farmington Square for your kind and gentle care for Cliff during his last few months. A service and reception followed by a tribute card game will be Saturday, November 24, 1:00 PM at the Springfield Elks, 1701 Centennial Blvd, Springfield OR 97477, (541 747 2145. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Springfield Elks Youth Activities which will be donated to Kidsports in his name.
