Biography
Charlotte Becket was born in about 1808 in Barnburgh, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England, and she was christened there on the 19th of February 1808. Charlotte's mother was Elizabeth Becket.[1] Charlotte was the only child born to her mother Elizabeth.
Charlotte had four children as a single mother, her first child George Beckett (1829) (needs profile) was born when she was about 21 years old,[2] her second child Ann Becket (1834) (needs profile) was born when she was about 26,[3] her third child Emma Stables Beckitt (1837 - 1838) (needs profile), who passed away in childhood, was born when she was about 29,[4][5] and her fourth child John Beckitt (1840) was born when she was about 32.[6] Charlotte's four children were all born in Barnburgh.[6]
In the 1841 census Charlotte was 33 years old, and she was living in Barnburgh with her mother Elizabeth who was 59, and her children George who was 10, Ann who was 5, and John who was 9 months old.[6]
Two years later, in 1843, Charlotte married Thomas Fisher, an Agricultural Labourer who was also from Barnburgh, in Doncaster, in the West Riding of Yorkshire when she was about 35 years old and he was about 28.[7][8]
Charlotte and Thomas had two children together Henry Fisher (1843),[9] and Sarah Fisher (1845),[10] who were both born in Barnburgh.[11]
Eight years later, in 1851, Charlotte was 42 years old, and she was still living in Barnburgh but with her husband Thomas who was 35 and an Agricultural Labourer, and her children George who was 21 and also an Agricultural Labourer, John who was 9, Henry who was 7, and Sarah who was 5.[11]
Ten years later, in 1861, Charlotte was 53 years old, and she was still living in Barnburgh with her husband Thomas who was 46 and an Agricultural Labourer, and her sons John who was 20, and Henry who was 17, who were both Agricultural Labourers like Thomas.[12]
Twenty years later, in 1881, Charlotte was 73 years old, a Pit Screens Man's Wife, and she was still living in Barnburgh with her husband Thomas who was 66 and had become a Pit Screen Man in a Colliery, and her granddaughter Charlotte Adams who was 11 and a School Student. (needs profile)[13]
Ten years later, in 1891, Charlotte was 83 years old, and she was living on the common in Barnburgh with her husband Thomas who was 75 and receiving Parish Relief, and her grandson George Fisher (needs profile) who was 25 and an Agricultural Labourer.[14]
One year later, in 1892, Charlotte's husband Thomas died in Barnburgh when he was 76 years old.[15]
In 1894, two years after the death of Charlotte's husband Thomas, Charlotte died in Barnburgh when she was 85 years old.[16]
