Biography

Matilda Beckett was born about 1819[1], possibly at Aghalee, County Antrim, Ireland (see notes below). She was the daughter of John Beckett and Sarah Unknown.

Matilda Beckett married Edward Ewing in 1858 at Muckamore, County Antrim.[2] The father of Matilda has been transcribed as Richard Beckett and the father of Edward as Edward Ewing, but both of these are incorrect. Matilda Ewing is listed in Charlotte (Beckett) Agnew's will as Charlotte's sister and Charlotte's father is John Beckett. Also, Matilda and Edward Ewing are buried in the grave of Edward's father, Patrick Ewing.

Matilda and Edward Ewing had at least one child, John Ewing (b. 1861).

Matilda's husband John Ewing died in 1885.

Matilda Ewing died in 1898, age 78, at Maghereagh, Drummaul, County Antrim.[1]

Matilda Ewing was buried in the Ewing grave with her husband at St Brigid's Drummaul Church of Irealnd Parish Churchyard, Randalstown, County Antrim.[3]

Research Notes

There are two possible candidates for Matilda, daughter of John Beckett, born in late 1819 in County Antrim. They may actually be the same person.

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/MCF5-37B Matilda christened 26 DEC 1819 at Aghalee daughter of Jno Becket and Sera. This was created from an IGI record which could be an entry from a parish register.

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/M385-KSB Matilda Bickett christened 18 DEC 1819 at Magheramisk daughter of John Bickett and Sarah Hull (who married in 1811 at Aghalee). This appears to have been created from a user submission.

As the locations are very close to each other and the dates are also very similar it is possible that these records refer to the same person.
