Biography

(Last name is pronounced Zook-er-man)

I have been researching since 1995. After my father passed away I felt a need to learn more about my family and heritage. I have a number of books and documents concerning my various family lines and the locations they have lived in. I do research every day. I hope one day to do research full time. I can be a bit obsessive with my research! I hope thru WikiTree to build a clean family tree full of sources and maybe break thru my 20 year brick wall of the parents of Thomas Beckett, my great, great grandfather.

I am a single parent to two teenage daughters who are my world and keep me young. We have 2 dogs, Rufus and Sasha, two former feral cats, Zorro & Bright Eyes and a Siamese cat named Dancing to the Music. When I'm not doing genealogy, I work for a DOE lab in Newport News, VA as an electrical designer. I'm also afternoon caretaker of a feral cat colony of about 10 cats which has earned me the nickname of "crazy cat lady".

Since my Mom passed in March 2016, I've discovered 3 half siblings. Al was the first one and I found him three months after Mom passed. He is my Mom's son and is 19 years older than me. To say I was shocked, is putting it mildly! Linda was my next one and she found me in April 2018. She is my Father's child and was born a month and a half before me. Our "baby" sister, Larona found us in June 2018. She is 7 years younger and also my father’s daughter. In the past two years, I went from a lonely, only child to a middle child with three half siblings. My sisters and I bonded quickly and are looking forward to meeting. Unfortunately the same is not true with Al. He couldn't care less that he has a biological sister and says he's too old to invest the time in a sibling.

The profile looks great! However, did you click thru on the challenge tracker at the top after you submitted the changes? You're not showing up in the team listing
No, and now I guess it is too late. Thought it would say it was for the source-a-thon.

Hello, Lori,

On behalf of the Military and War Project Leaders, we are doing a six-month check-in with members.

First, we want to thank you for your past participation in the Military and War Project. We appreciate your desire to honor your ancestors for their service to their countries, or even for your service, wherever in the world. We hope that your membership has enhanced your WikiTree experience.

Please let me know, by commenting on my profile or sending a private message, if you are still active in the project, and if so, in which ways you have contributed to the main project or a sub-project within the last two months.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Lori! Frankly, I'm not sure I'm doing any of this correctly! The cemeterist badge is on my profile now, but I'm not sure what other badge I need or how to get it. Any help/ suggestion/ guidance is most definitely appreciated! Thank you! Yvonne (Benningfield-116)
I am interested in Team Missouri (which is hard for an Iowan to say-ha ha) for the July Connect-a-thon. I can only participate for some time on the Friday, is that ok?

that is too bad about your brother. He is probably carrying around a bit of baggage.

Even so I would still stay publically available, his kids ( if he has any) may have an entirely different opinion about things and may want to know you and your kids. I hope they do and your story has a wonderful new chapter to tell.
