Biography

Dr. Simon Beckham September 11, 1863 May 7, 1935 Simon Beckham was born in Lancaster District, S.C., near Pleasant Hill, the son of Dr. Robert S. and Elizabeth Cauthen Beckham. He attended the common schools of his native county, then entered the South Carolina Medical College, receiving his degree March 1, 1884. Dr. Beckham began his medical career in partnership with his father in Lancaster, S.C., remaining there until September 1896, when he moved to Hartsville, S.C. For 38 years Dr. Beckham practiced in Hartsville and vicinity until declining health forced him to retire in 1934. He was a member of the Pee Dee Medical Association; the Hartsville Presbyterian Church; and the Darlington County Medical Society. He served as Hartsville Postmaster from 1903 to 1905. Dr. Beckham married Margaret Ervin Cannon of Hartsville on December 8, 1897; they had no children.

He married Margaret Ervin Cannon on December 8, 1897, in South Carolina. He died on May 7, 1935, in Hartsville, South Carolina, at the age of 71, and was buried there.
