Her father, Francis Beckham, was charged with sheep stealing on 1 Jul 1843 at North Tuddenham, Norfolk. He arrived in Australia aboard the ship "Sir George Seymour" at Point Henry on 22 March 1845, Geelong, one of 176 exiles, including his brother Henry BECKHAM after having been convicted together. These exiles were from the Pentonville Probationary Prison. Francis and Henry BECKHAM, brothers arrived at Geelong in 1845 and went to work as shepherds for Henry GIBB, a squatter in the Lake Bolac/Mortlake area. They took up land at Murgheboluc, near Geelong, where their wives and families joined them from Norfolk, England, in 1849, arriving on the Panama. [1]

Sarah Ann BECKHAM was born about 1835 in Norwich, Norfolk, England, the daughter of Francis Beckham and Mary Ann Caley.

She and her sister Caroline were christened on 2 September 1838 at Mattishall, Norwich, Norfolk, England[2].

The ship, Panama set sail from Plymouth, England on 28 May 1849 with the BECKHAM family among the passengers and arrived in Port Phillip, Colony of New South Wales (later known as Victoria) on 26 August 1849[3][4]. The family were listed under "Wives and Families of Convicts" and consisted of mother, Mary A (age 35, Housekeeper) and her children, Thomas (17, Shepherd), Mary Ann (15, House servant), Sarah Anne (13), Caroline (11), Susannah (7), Maria (5) and infant, Dinah.

In 1853 she married John Dew in the Colony of Victoria. [5]
