George Beckitt is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.
George was born in 1851[1] in Hull, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of John Beckitt and Louisa Porter. By 1861 he and his family had moved to Grimsby, Lincolnshire.[2] George worked as a ship carpenter.[3]
In 1874 George married Mary Ann Arkwell.[4][5] The family lived in Grimsby in 1881, when George worked as a fireman.[6][7][8] In 1911 the family lived at 220 King Edward Street and he worked as a foreman stevedore.[9]
