Biography
The son of William Henry Beckley (1842-1921) and Harriet Elizabeth Ward (1858-1939), Ward Beckley was born in Shiawassee County, Michigan[1] in 1875, residing there with his parents.[2] He and his mother migrated west to California, residing in Valencia, in Santa Cruz County.[3][4] They later moved to Tucson, Arizona, where Ward worked as a accountant, working for the railroad.[5][6][7]
Ward registered for the World War I draft there when he was 43, registering in Tucson, Arizona on September 12, 1918.[8] He stated that he lived at 1410 East 4th Street in Tucson and he worked for Arizona Eastern Railroad as a railroad clerk. Ward listed his mother as his closest contact. He was described as a tall, slender man with brown hair and grey eyes. In 1918, working for the Aztec Consolidated Mining Company, he applied for a passport for business travel to the state of Sonora, Mexico.[9] He did not enlist and, in 1920, residing with his mother in Tucson, Ward continued his work as a railroad accountant.[10]
