Biography

The son of William Henry Beckley (1842-1921) and Harriet Elizabeth Ward (1858-1939), Ward Beckley was born in Shiawassee County, Michigan^[1] in 1875, residing there with his parents.^[2] He and his mother migrated west to California, residing in Valencia, in Santa Cruz County.^[3][4] They later moved to Tucson, Arizona, where Ward worked as a accountant, working for the railroad.^[5][6][7]

Ward registered for the World War I draft there when he was 43, registering in Tucson, Arizona on September 12, 1918.^[8] He stated that he lived at 1410 East 4th Street in Tucson and he worked for Arizona Eastern Railroad as a railroad clerk. Ward listed his mother as his closest contact. He was described as a tall, slender man with brown hair and grey eyes. In 1918, working for the Aztec Consolidated Mining Company, he applied for a passport for business travel to the state of Sonora, Mexico.^[9] He did not enlist and, in 1920, residing with his mother in Tucson, Ward continued his work as a railroad accountant.^[10]

Ward married later in life, marrying Maria (Bickelhaupt) Beckley in Guadalajara, Mexico on July 1, 1929^[11][12] and making their home in Tucson.^[13][14][15]

William Beckley passed away in Tucson , Arizona^{[citation needed]}at the age of 86 and is buried at South Lawn Memorial Cemetery there.^[16]
