Biography

Leland was born in 1892. He passed away in 1972. Leland Charles Beckwith Sr. of East New Market died at his home early Sunday morning. He was born Feb. 4, 1892, being 80, the son of the late Charles W. and Clarissa Seward Beckwith. He had lived in Dorchester Co., all of his life where he engaged in farming. He was a member of the Salem Methodist Church. His survivors are his widow, the former Alice LeCompte, whom he married on Oct. 10, 1913, three daughters, Mrs. Vernon Aaron and Mrs. Sewell Spedden, both of Cambridge and Mrs. Granville Mayne of Secretary; one son, Leland C. Beckwith Jr. of East New Market; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Roberson and Mrs. Earl Pritchett, both of Cambridge. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Willoughby Funeral Home, East New Market, with Rev. Irvin Behm officiating. Interment will be in East New Market Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight (Monday) from 7 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be: Ronald Bryan Jr., Charles Dean Jr., Fred Robinson, Larry Waldren, Sewell and Philip Spedden.[1]
