Field: nuclear physics Antoine Henri Becquerel was born to Alexandre Edmond Becquerel and wife, Aurelia (Quenard) Becquerel 15 Dec 1852. He married Lucie Jamin 21 Nov 1921 in Paris, France.
Henri graduated in Engineering at l’Ecole Nationals des Ponts et Chaussees. He obtained his Doctorate Of research by thesis and was appointed member of the Academie des Sciences.
Henri devoted his research to optical physics, specifically infrared rays. During his years of teaching at l’Ecole Polytechnique, he accidentally discovered radioactivity which in 1903, earned him the Nobel Prize along with Pierre and Marie Curie.
The unit of measurement of the “Systeme international d’unites” for radioactivity and a derivative of uranium ore were dedicated to him.
