Biography

Jean was born 5 Feb 1878 in Paris, France to Antoine Edouard Becquerel and his wife Lucie Zoe Marie Jamin.

Jean Becquerel was also a French physicist like his father and grandfather and great grandfather. He worked on the optical and magnetic properties of crystals discovering the rotation of the plane of polarization by a magnetic field.

In 1909 he became the 4th member of his family to occupy the physics chair at the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle.
