Biography

1776 Project
Private David Bedell served with 4th Continental Light Dragoons, Continental Army during the American Revolution.

David Bedell was born on 17 APR 1761 in Morristown, Morris, New Jersey. He migrated to Burke County, North Carolina after the Revolutionary War and to Missouri after 1830. He died on 24 MAR 1840 in Greene County, Missouri. [1]

Biography

David Bedell Birth: 1761 Death: 1840 David Bedell, 1761-1840, was a New Jersey native who entered service at age 17, just after his father was killed in the Revolution. He served first as a drummer boy, and later in the cavalry under Col. Stephen Moylan's 4th Continental Light Dragoons in Virginia, South Carolina and Pennsylvania. After the war, he married and lived in North Carolina for many years before he homesteaded in Greene County with his sons in 1835. He is buried in Old Salem Cemetery in northeast Greene County. Revolutionary War Soldier BEDELL, David (1761-1840)—Old Salem Cemetery, 10 miles north of Springfield, on Fruitland Road, Greene County, Missouri. This grave was marked with a government headstone by the Rachel Donelson Chapter DAR around 1911. The Ozark Mountain Chapter SAR held a joint memorial service for David Bedell and Elisha Headlee (who were brothers-in-law and are buried almost side by side) on May 16, 1992 (an SAR insignia had been placed at his grave several years earlier).
