Biography

Agnes was not of the Bedingfield family. The original misconception came from a book published in 1908 by William Richard Cutter, Genealogical and Personal Memoirs, Vol. 4. [1]

On page 2116 William Cutter wrote the following about Christopher Browne: "He married first, Grace Pinchbeck; second, Agnes -------, of Bedingfield, Norfolk; third, Elizabeth -------."

Note that he says Agnes is FROM Bedingfield (which is actually located in Suffolk), not that she is of the Bedingfield family. We do not know the family names for Agnes or Elizabeth.

Old Notes

While there is much speculation among genealogists as to Agnes Bedingfield's dates (born anywhere between 1450 and 1500), there does not seem to be any controversy about her marriage to Christopher Browne--[2] and others--and their children.

Some genealogists have her father as Edmond Bedingfield, born about 1450, in Norfolk, England, and died October 15, 1496, Oxburgh Hall, Norfolk, England. Edmond married Margaret Scott. These genealogies are in error.

See the last sentence of the first footnote on this page: https://archive.org/details/genealogist01mars/page/n148/mode/1up where it says "His first wife was Grace... and his second was a dau. of Bedingfield, Norf." No source or name is given. This was published 30 years before Cutter's work.

It's not possible for Agnes to be a daughter of Edmund and Margaret (Scott) Bedingfield. Agnes had a son born in 1482 so it's unlikely she was born much after 1460. Her supposed mother, Margaret Scott, was born in 1456 and would have been under the age of 10 at the time of Agnes' birth.

Mother was 7 when she was born? I think the info in her bio is the correct date.

Bedingfield-9 and Bedingfield-1 are not ready to be merged because: same person. looks like her profile has son and husband mixed up.
Bedingfield-38 and Bedingfield-9 appear to represent the same person because:

Appear to be the same person and are the mother of the same son at present.
