Elizabeth Bee was the daughter of John Bee and Jane Amelia Southall of Gloucestershire, England. The Bee's left England amid poverty, famine, and general unrest. They arrived in New York in 1832. Over the next few years, they settled in Ohio. It was there Charles, Elizabeth, and Albert were born. They were now a family of 5 children. From Ohio, they headed out on their last major trek, this time settling in Patoka, Pike, Indiana.
Elizabeth was only about 4, when her father, John Bee, died. Her parents had only been in this country for 7 years. They had no relatives to depend on. The family of 5 children, under 10 years old, and her mother, Jane Amelia, were beyond being devasted.
In 1841, this family was merged with that of widower with 4 unmarried children, George Wright. It was George and Amelia that raised them until the until they were able to go out on their own.
Less than 18 years later, Jane Amelia, was a widow again. She had 1 more child to raise, Caroline; George and hers.
Elizabeth married William Thomas Bryant on July 23, 1848. He was a farmer, as George and some of his family members. Little has been published about him. William died on April 11, 1862. He had been a Union soldier.
