Thomas Beesley was christened on 19 Nov 1820 in Beetham, Westmorland.^[1] He was the son of Bartholomew Beesley and Ann (Cornthwaite) Beesley.

By June 6th 1841, the family were living in New Brighton, Eccleston, Lancashire, just south of the highway from Prescot to St Helens. Bartholomew was a journeyman stone mason. As well as Bartholomew and Ann, the household contained four of their children, none of whom appear to have been in paid employment - Thomas (aged 20-24), Mary (12), Margaret (9) and Agnes (6).

By March 30th 1851, the family were living in New Road, Prescot. Bartholomew was a stone mason. Thomas, Mary and Agnes were still living with their parents; Mary and Agnes were dressmakers, Thomas was a stone mason like his father.
