Joseph was born in 1829 in Arkansas or Alabama. He was the son of Jonathan Beeson and Elizabeth (Stewart) Beeson.^[1]

In the 1860 census Joseph (age about 31) was living in Moss, Columbia, Arkansas, United States.^[1]
