A 2001 Christies auction listing for his medals from the Second World War suggests he distinguished himself during his war service. He had the following medals awarded to him:
"Lot Description A Second World War D.E.M.S. Operations D.S.M. Group of Six to Temporary Acting Petty Officer A.E. Behenna, Royal Navy, Distinguished Service Medal, G.VI.R. (T./A. P.O.); 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Africa Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45, one or two edge bruises and minor contact marks, very fine and better, mounted as worn."
A supplement to the London Gazette, 14 June 1945 lists him as: Temporary Acting Petty Officer Albert Edgar BEHENNA, D/JX.20475 6 (Cardiff)[1]
According to his nephew Barry, Albert visited Australia during the war. He worked for Bristow and Co and had four children by his wife Grace: Michael, Sally L. (m. 1967) , June (b. abt 1932, m. 1954) and Carol.
