Biography

Curt Otto Stamford Behr was born on 14 April 1892 and baptised on 1 June 1892 in Danzig, Prussia, Germany[1] to Otto Paul Behr, a Lieutenant in the 138 Infantry Regiment, and Maud Amy Lumsdaine. Six witnesses names are given including a Lily Lumsdaine of Lathallan, Edinburgh. The record has the subtitle Poland, Gdansk, baptism and confirmation, and there is other hand-written information (all in German) including their place of last residence.

Curt Behr's marriage to Hertha Prollius was reported in the 'German Navy Crew Chronicle, 1891-1918', which also had his birth year as 1892, location as Neufahrwasser; marriage date 29 September 1923; death date 19 August 1944 at Stavanger, Norway; and Band year 1912[2]. The original of this Chronicle is in German and gives a brief summary of his career in 3 periods: 1914-1918, 1919-1939 and 1940-1944.

There is a birth record for an Emmi Charlotte Hertha Prollius on 21 March 1904 in Berlin[3]. Whether this is the person Curt Behr married still has to be ascertained.

Curt Behr, who was born on 14 April 1892 in Neufahrwasser/Danzig, was killed in action at Stavanger in Norway on 19 August 1944, while with the Stab B Sankourand, Stavanger Military Unit. His Identification Number: G-A 008/0684, Rank: Korv kpt z Ser (FP Kr 07626), and spouse's name - Herta B - are also given[4].

At the time of his death Curt Otto Stamford Behr was a ranking Korvettenkapitän zur See.
